Brian Steidle grew up living around the world as the son of a Naval officer. He graduated with a B.S. from Virginia Tech in 1999 and received a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantry officer. He completed his service with the USMC at the end of 2003 and took a position working for the African Union in Darfur Sudan. He has made several return trips to Africa and now gives lectures across the country, including Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and UCLA, about African and international affair.

Brian received his first camera when he was in middle school and has taken various photography courses around the world. As you will see, his photography covers various subjects from the darkest side of war to beautiful scenery from around the globe. Brian has co-authored, his memoir, The Devil Came on Horseback: Bearing Witness to the Genocide in Darfur which chronicles his time in Darfur and also is the subject of the award winning, Emmy Nominated Documentary Film by the same title.
